Object data

Last updated: July 20, 2023
A generic term for a set of data that uniquely defines and underwrites a complete object for its intended use. It defines what a object is in terms of human and/or machine interpretable data, with enough detail to be able to design, manufacture, install, maintain, apply, or use the object, or to provide complete trace ability to any configuration controlled events associated with the object.
Object data is the common denominator for all business processes in the enterprise, and can be broadly divided into the following categories:
  • Configuration Data – data that describes the make-up of the item. This data is created during the design phase of the object, and is applied during the objection, operational, and support phases of the object. It includes bills of material, assembly drawings, circuit diagrams, etc.
  • Management Control and Support Data – data that describes actions that must be performed around the object. This data is generated during the design phase of the object and is applied during the operational and support phase of the object. It includes test procedures, work instructions, maintenance manuals, training manuals, Logistic Support Analysis Records (LSAR), etc.
  • Analytical Data – data which qualifies and quantifies the object's theoretical physical and functional characteristics. This data is generated from theoretical evaluation calculations in the design phase of the object, to optimize object design. It includes Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode and Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Reliability Analysis, Simulation, Logistic Support Analysis (LSA), etc.
  • Historical Data – data which qualifies and quantifies and records events associated with the object which, in the future, can be useful to interpret or prove past conditions. This data is generated during the objection, operational, and support phase of the object. It includes Test and Qualification Results, Failure Reports, Certificates of Conformance, Acceptance Certificates, Inspection Results, etc.

Object data can be embedded in documents as well as in metadata.
